pièce de résistance: 18th c. boiserie

While on our last shopping trip, this unusually large 18th century boiserie, or a carved wood panel, caught our eye and refused to let go. It had such a presence that we couldn't resist. The warmth of the wood, intricate carvings and it's enormous size made it a piece louis & lavender couldn't leave without forever regretting.

This massive oak panel, which most likely came from a chateau, has intricate carvings that are best appreciated close up. The center, which is currently a magnificent display of negative space, probably framed either a painting or tapestry.

This magnificent boiserie is a piece to design your room around. Create a home for it on your mantel, use it as a room divider, or hang it as a stunning architectural piece on your wall. It would look beautiful with art, an antique mercury glass mirror, or tapestry inside of it. However, one could embrace the stunning negative space to bring attention to its distinct and delicate characteristics.
